Armstrong Votes 2026 · Candidate

Mike Babott

Background, public record, forum positions and unanswered questions for Mike Babott, a 2026 Armstrong councillor candidate.

Office: Councillor

Mike Babott moved to Armstrong in 2017 and is known locally through Rhythm Productions and Chamber involvement.

His candidacy is heavily centred on communication.

At the council forum, Babott made an important distinction.

He did not argue that the City had failed to put information out about projects such as downtown redevelopment.

He said the information wasn’t reaching everyone.

His suggested response was to reconsider how the City communicates: use local businesses, physical notices and modern digital tools, and meet residents where they actually get their information rather than assuming one channel is enough.

On taxes, Babott took a more moderate position than candidates promising no increases. He said council has to balance affordability against its responsibility to maintain municipal assets before failures make repairs even more expensive.

Previous public office: None identified.

Community record: Chamber and community-event involvement.

From the forum: Said the communication problem is partly one of reach rather than complete absence of information.

Another way to look at it: Better distribution may solve some communication problems. It does not address the separate complaint that people were consulted but believe their input did not influence the outcome.

What I’d like to know: How would Babott determine whether public consultation actually changed a proposal rather than simply informed residents about it?
