About The Spall
The Spall is an independent local news publication serving Armstrong and Spallumcheen, British Columbia.
Our focus is simple: report what is happening here, explain why it matters, and give local residents information they can actually use.
We cover municipal government, elections, business, agriculture, community organizations, local events, public issues and the people who make Armstrong and Spallumcheen what they are.
The Spall was created because small communities deserve more than occasional regional coverage, social-media rumours and rewritten press releases. Important local decisions are often buried in council agendas, staff reports, budgets, public notices and meetings that most people do not have time to follow closely.
We do.
Our goal is not to tell readers what to think. It is to give them enough reliable information to decide for themselves.
Independent and locally owned
The Spall is independently owned and operated in Armstrong, British Columbia.
We are not owned by a political party, municipality, advocacy organization, business association or large media company.
Advertising and sponsorship help support the publication, but advertisers do not control editorial decisions or receive favourable news coverage in exchange for financial support.
Sponsored or paid material will always be clearly identified.
What we believe local journalism should do
Local journalism should be accurate before it is fast. It should distinguish fact from opinion. It should ask difficult questions without manufacturing conflict. It should give people a reasonable opportunity to respond when they are criticized. It should correct mistakes openly. And it should remember that the people being written about are also neighbours.
The Spall intends to report firmly where necessary, fairly whenever possible, and without turning every disagreement into a fight.
